1. These statistics reflect a University population of approximately 35,369 students and 12,288 employees. During athletic and other events, as many as 60,000 individuals may be on campus.
2. The Residential Facilities statistics in parentheses are duplicative. They are also included in the general Campus statistics and reflect that portion of the Campus statistics that occurred in fraternity and sorority houses as well as dormitories or other residential facilities for students on campus.
3. The statistics listed in “Public Property” include incidents that took place off campus, on public property immediately adjacent to and accessible from the Campus, including incidents that occurred in the parking garage and exterior grounds of the University of Maryland University College in Adelphi, Maryland. See www.umuc.edu for details in reference to UMUC.
4. Hate Crimes are crimes that manifest evidence that the victim was intentionally selected because of the victim’s actual or perceived Race (RA), Religion (RE), Sexual Orientation (SO), Gender (G), Ethnicity (E), or Disability (D). Numbers in small print parentheses indicate how many of the total number of reported incidents were motivated by each type of bias. Statistics for Hate Crimes Involving Bodily Injury do not include hate crime incidents included in other categories, which are also noted by type of bias.
5. Individuals not arrested but referred for possible campus disciplinary action (e.g., first offenders required to attend education programs).
6. Six incidents reported in this category involve nonconsensual touching. Twenty-five incidents reported in this category were reported to the Office of the Victim Advocate and not to police. Consequently, these incidents were unable to be investigated by police.
7. Five incidents reported in this category involve nonconsensual touching.
8. Five incidents reported in this category involve nonconsensual touching.
9. This statistic reflects three incidents that occurred at the University System of Maryland Shady Grove Center located in Rockville, Maryland.
10.This statistic reflects one incident that occurred at the University System of Maryland Shady Grove Center located in Rockville, Maryland.
11.This statistic reflects two incidents that occurred at the University System of Maryland Shady Grove Center located in Rockville, Maryland.
Crime statistics for the University are also compiled and reported in accordance with the national Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program. UCR statistics differ from those compiled in accordance with the Clery Act. UCR statistics include offenses that occurred on campus and were reported to police. UCR statistics for the University can be found online on the DPS website (www.umdps.umd.edu). Additional statistics and information on the UCR Program may be found online (www.fbi.gov). A Sex Offender Registry may be accessed on the State of Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services website (www.dpscs.state.md.us/onlineservs/sor). |
